When I wrote The Slab back in 2001/2002, I took it to IDW Publishing, a local publishing company owned by friends I had worked with at WildStorm Productions. They mostly published comic books at that time, but they were branching out into prose (publishing work by Steve Niles, in particular--the twisted mind behind the 30 Days of Night comics/franchise). Because they were horror-focused and in the neighborhood, I thought it would be a good fit for their growing line. They agreed to publish it, but also asked me to join the company as its first editor-in-chief. I accepted, and worked their until I left gainful employment to go freelance.
Because they came out of a comics background, all their prose fiction was extensively illustrated. The Slab was no different--it was packed with great illoes by the inimitable Tommy Lee Edwards.
On Wednesday morning, I'm leaving home to travel back to San Diego for the San Diego Comic-Con, which I've attended every year since 1983. In celebration of the con and in commemoration of this novel (really a seminal one in my career and my growth as a writer, I believe) and its origins in the comic book world, I've put the e-book (which does not contain the illustrations, but also is not a $16.99 trade paperback) on sale for a limited time. Act now and pick it up for a mere 99¢! That's 124,000 words of crystalline prose telling an unforgettable story of terror and suspense, for less than a buck. You really can't go wrong.
The sale price has not yet taken effect at all retailers, but Kindle users can find it here, and people with other readers can probably get what they're looking for here. As always, I appreciate your willingness to read my work, and I'm glad when it costs you less of your hard-earned dough to do so.
